I began switching out cleaning products several years ago, and my first foray into this was buying less toxic products from cleaner companies like Seventh Generation. Some of those products are good and some not really much better, so eventually I started making own. I love being able to control exactly what goes into it and how it smells. And, the smell is what is so amazing about this cleaner. It smells SO good! I think mint smells unbelievable and it’s such a clean, bright smell to me. And, it is biodegradable and non-toxic.
I’m going to share with you my FAVORITE safe, non-toxic all-purpose cleaner recipe using spearmint essential oil.
Spearmint Cleaner
- Glass Spray Bottle
- 2 Tbsp. DoTERRA OnGuard Cleaner Concentrate
- 15 drops of spearmint essential oil
- 24 oz. distilled water
Depending on the size of your bottle, you can adjust the cleaner to water ratio. Use 2 tbsp. of concentrate per 24 oz. of water. The OnGuard concentrate has Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary CPTG® essential oils, which provide natural protection against certain environmental factors while elevating the overall cleaning capability. It’s a nice and light scent, but with the spearmint, I don’t really smell those at all.
It’s important to use a good quality essential oil because some companies sell “oils” for cheap that are only marketed that way. They are not essential oils at all, but synthetic fragrance. Yuck. I recommend DoTerra and you can order here or if you’re interested in getting wholesale prices, let me know.
In case you think it’s costly to get these ingredients, this will last you forever! You can make many, many batches of cleaner with these.
